Overview of writing 2...

The general statement, or rather belief, is that writing should always be an academic and literary inspired piece of work, but this class has actually turned that statement to something I never expected. I used to believe that writing was always boring, and that it required so much attention from me, but this quarter I learned that writing is fun. One major fact that I was indirectly taught by Chris was that writing does need to have all the componets, regardless of the piece that is being written, but that the process to get to a final product is what makes the writing interesting or not. During this course, the process in which the class wrote was interesting and engaging, I felt as if I was writing out of pleasure instead of an assignment!
Overall, I believe this course has changed my point of view when it comes to writing. I feel like my eyes have been opened through a process I would have never imagined would be so fulfilling. I am certainly speechless and the only thing I could do at this point is thank the master mind that helped me connect to writing in such a way: Chris Dean.

Sample student script

The sample student script and podcast were good. I believe that she really tried on her work and I really liked how she incorporated a song by Christina Aguilera at the end of her podcast. Overall, I think the podcast had a very smooth flow, I think that the idea of the Mozart effect being just a figure of people's imagination was put across. It was evident that the student put an effort into finding works that agreed with her perspective.
I also noticed how she had many sources, I could tell that she really knew what she was talking about and it was nice listening to someone talk so secure about a topic. also, the fact that she had sources made the podcast a bit more impacting because each source confirms what she is trying to get across and I think the sources she chose were very good for the topic and structure she chose for both the the podcast and the script.

Chris' podcast

The podcast created and done by our professor was interesting, I liked the idea of telling the history behind some of the songs that were on the podcast itself. I personally enjoyed the descriptive details that were included in the script. Although it was true that the actual podcast did not follow the scrip word by word, it is also true that the words that were added were still in context with the podcast as a whole. I also liked the music that was used because it connected with the story that was being told and described by the host. I think the podcast sounded a bit rushed but the overall outcome was good.
One thing I really did not agree with was the length of the whole podcast, I liked how everything was relevant but I think the overall podcast was a bit long, but in some way I still believe the podcast was good.

Music of the Hemispheres

Most parents think that by making their baby listrento Mozart, they will have the best advantge on learning and being productive, but the truth is, according to the research that Rachel Ehrenberg has conducted, it seems to be that kids who actually play the music created by Mozart gives them a head start. According to the reading, the brain works with beats, and it seems to be that the more the person recognizes beats and structure, the easier it is for them to learn. According to Ehrenberg, "Scrutinizing brains on music suggests that trainign influences more than the higher-level circuitry relevant to language skills." which could be a great advantage because then many language-related illnesses can be treated by the simple use of music itself.
I would like to learn more about the subject because it is very interesting to sort of know how the brain works, even though we will never be near to know every single function of it ourselves.

Extreme Parenting

The whole idea of a smarter kid seems to be the focus of every parent everywhere.The truth is that behind all the propaganda of the so called "Mozart Effect" there really is not much true benefit from it, or so it says Alissa Quart. She describes, and shocks the reader by saying: "Many infant DVDs are full of dubious information about time-limited opportunities for learning. Some products abuse parental fears, invoking the specter of infant brain-cell death." With this statement making it clear that there is a parental fear based capitalism. It is true, that we would all like our kids to be smart and learn fast, but if the price to pay is to be in fear for life, i would much rather have an average kid that learns along with everyone else.
The truth is that, it has not yet been proven that these DVDs work, sure, parents might seem happy about the results over time, but that is the product of many hours of putting kids in front of a screen to watch some "instructive" video.

Survey of Teens and Adults about the Use of Personal Electronic Devices and Head Phones

When I first read this I was impressed on how much data there is, it is a lot to grasp on but it is possible to do. The author, Joseph Zogby, describes in detail all the circumstances in which a person uses head phones and the use they actually give these apparatus. He describes, in many ways the idea that the more we use headphones, the faster we can lose our hearing abilities as well as our social skills. I believe it is not really true, not completely anyway, the fact that  a person wears headphones does not necessarily mean that they do not want to talk with the others, but maybe just that they really enjoy listening to music and they would rather do that than to socialize.
the main idea of this reading is to both, let people know about the risks of listening to headphones and how it can affect us in the long run, and to also let the reader know about the social distancing that is produced by these marvelous little music boxes.
In my opinion, Ipods are not bad, if they are only listened to during a moderate amount of time, but once this action becomes an obsession, then there we should look out and pay more attention to these people for their own good.
